World Vegan Day: Pledge Veganism for 30 Days
World Vegan Day has arrived and with it the vegan life festivities. To mark World Vegan Day, November 1st, we would love to highlight the importance of veganism, and how it became a mainstream trend.
In Qatar, many restaurants and cafes try to cater to the vegans living here. However, most of them fall short in providing quality food that is also tasty, except for one place, Evergreen Organics.
Founded in 2016 by Ghanim Al Sulaiti and Jawaher Al Fardan, Evergreen Organics has brought in much needed hype for the vegan lifestyle. With its unique location in the Pearl Qatar and a breathtaking view of the ocean, Evergreen Organics really sets the bar high for vegans in Qatar. In the official Evergreen Organics website, it states, “Our goal is to create a community space to inspire, educate and share knowledge about healthy living and wellbeing.” This is exactly what veganism aims to do.
Qatar’s first and only 100% organic café holds many awards including Green Hospitality Restaurant Award 2017, Best New Comer at Time Out Doha’s Restaurants of the year awards, Recognized by Ohlala Magazine for contribution to the wellness industry in Qatar.
Not only does your body become cleansed of toxins, but the number of healthy ingredients found in plants should not only keep our bodies clean but our mental health intact as well. “We should be eating food that comes from the earth, the plants represent the source of life (oxygen to us) and we are basically eating the source of life,” said Al Sulaiti.
According to Al Sulaiti, you can be any type of vegan, you just need to find what works for you and matches your energy. You could be an activist of veganism and refuse to use or consume any product of animals, including clothing and houseware, or you can be a vegan with food, only consuming foods that are plant-based.
The many benefits of pursuing a plant-based lifestyle is not just to keep up with trends, but it really is beneficial for your physical and mental health. Countless studies have shown that a vegan diet can help to protect bone and heart health, and lower the risk of cancer and breathing issues. Furthermore, becoming vegan eliminates any chance of ingesting harmful animal fats, uncooked/undercooked meats leading to diseases, and lowers cholesterol levels.
Plant nutrition is filled with vitamins, especially Vitamin C, K, and D, along with potassium, magnesium, and calcium. Most plants have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant qualities that make them perfect for your body and mind’s health.
The World Vegan Society offers a pledge every year for those who want to attempt veganism or switch to it indefinitely. According to the official website, multiple events occur in the vegan awareness month and you can participate in many different ways. Supporting local vegan initiatives is a big one, along with taking up the 30-day vegan challenge/ pledge, and charity competitions for the best vegan recipes.
